Nils Frahm - “For” (Erased Tapes, 2011)
Shigeto - “Huron River Drive” (Ghostly International, 2012)
Teebs - “just for you” (Brainfeeder, 2011)
Teebs just makes the most beautiful music, right? A new jawn from his SoundCloud.
Nick Mulvey - “The RIver Lea” (SoundCloud, 2011)
Today, I re-discovered the awesomeness of Portico Quartet, the British jazz group, after hearing their new track “Ruins.” But it’s a different group than the one that released Isla in 2009 (a gem, btw), as percussionist Nick Mulvey departed some time ago to embark on a solo career.
So I looked him up to see if he’s put anything out and found his SoundCloud and I’ve been playing all five tracks he’s posted on repeat ever since. They’re all beautiful, somber, acoustic numbers in the style of Nick Drake and Jose Gonzalez, perfect for the onset of those chilly December evenings. They might be demos, rough drafts, or the finished thing, but it doesn’t matter to me - they hit the spot.
I can’t find any information on official releases, but I’m looking forward to whatever he might put out.
Black Milk & Danny Brown - “Zap” (Fat Beats, 2011)
First leak from the forthcoming collaborative EP, Black and Brown, due to drop November 1. I dig that sample and when the drums hit it all clicks.
Hudson Mohawke - “Party Animal” (Pleasure Principle, 2011)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
G-Side ft. Stalley and Joi Tiffany - “Gettin It” (Internet, 2011)
I’m Greg and I approve this sample.
The Block Beattaz loop a Tame Impala riff (“Why Don’t You Make Up Your Mind”) for the latest from G-Side. What sounds like a tepid sample at first gets really good as the bassline comes in, extra guitars are added on top, a tympani drum makes an appearance. G-Side and Stalley, as usual, do their thing.

AM & Shawn Lee - “City Boy” (ESL Music, 2011)
The ridiculously prolific Shawn Lee hooks up with L.A. cat AM for an album of folky-pop type substance, Celestial Eclectic. I kinda feel bad about posting tracks that open albums (that aren’t singles) but this one got to me right away. Anyways, you should also check out their performance on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, full of awesome hair and a particularly fine mustache (oh, and pretty sweet music).
